Join award-winning photographer and Sony Digital Imaging Advocate, Dylan Giannakopoulos on his Seascape and Astrophotography Workshop on Saturday 23rd July 2022. If you are wanting to try long exposure photography for the first time or get hands-on with Haida’s range of M10 and Red Diamond filters, this is the workshop for you!

In this workshop, we will be visiting three locations in the Mornington Peninsula. Our first stop for the day will be at Flinders Blowhole. As we will be shooting outside of the golden and blue hour, this will be a great opportunity to practice stacking ND filters to achieve long exposures during the day. We will then drive to Shelley Beach to photograph the boat house and pier at sunset. Using a variety of both man-made and natural elements as our subject, you’ll discover how to manipulate your shutter speed to capture silky smooth clouds and water. Thanks to Maxxum and Haida, you will be provided with a loaner M10 filter kit and get access to a variety of M10 and Red Diamond filters.

After sunset, we will get dinner at a local bistro before heading to Flinders Pier for our third location for astrophotography (weather permitting). Here you will learn about the fundamentals of astrophotography including how to manually focus your lens and use the 500 Rule for capturing tack-sharp stars.  

At the workshop, you will learn how to:

• Take creative control over your camera’s shutter speed with square neutral density (ND) filters.

• Use compositional techniques in your landscape photography to create captivating imagery.

• Plan your sunset and astrophotography shoots around light and moon phases.

• Photograph the night sky and galactic centre (weather permitting).

• Master control of various camera modes and settings such as aperture priority and manual focusing, and learn how to read your camera’s histogram.
